Ali Tariq, Executive Director of the Iraqi Private Banks League and Board Member of the Iraqi–French Business Council, shared an update on Iraq’s growing digital payments landscape.
The Iraqi Private Banks League announced on Sunday the issuance of more than 18 million electronic payment cards, alongside an increase in payment points to nearly 60,000.
The League’s Executive Director, Ali Tariq, stated that “the issuance of electronic cards in Iraq is witnessing significant growth, particularly following government decisions aimed at enhancing electronic payments and requiring both public and private institutions to adopt e-collection.”
He further explained that “the number of issued cards has exceeded 18 million in Iraq, while the number of electronic payment points has risen from 7,000 to nearly 60,000, with expectations for further growth in the coming period,” according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA) .
Tariq added that “banks continue to support various projects,” noting that “the maximum financing limits for small, medium, and large-scale projects are determined by each financial institution based on the nature of the project, its capital, and the number of employees.”
